LM Studio is a desktop application for running models locally. It has a built-in model browser, downloads weights with the right settings, and serves a local OpenAI-compatible endpoint other apps can call.

It is the most approachable way for a non-technical user to get a local model running, with no terminal involved.

A fit when an individual wants to discover and run local models through a friendly desktop GUI.

Where it doesn't fit

A desktop app, not server infrastructure — not the route for a shared or production deployment.
